The Holidays are WHEN?!

The past three months have been a whirlwind…I broke my hand August 11 and the day I got my cast off- September 25 the rain started…then Hurricane Helene hit on the 27th. It has all been a blur- and a massively humbling learning experience. Western North Carolina was hit hard by the storm- the loss of life and culture in the area is still staggering weeks later. We still do not have clean water to drink or shower with- and that is likely still weeks away. But having to carry water feels like a small price to pay with how much others are struggling with still. The affects of Helene will be felt and seen here for years to come.

But time marches on and life finds a way and the ‘outside world’ carries on. And while we are all still in a daze here, the reality is our businesses rely heavily on tourists to shop with us (I do have to say that locals have SHOWED UP! Friends, neighbors and strangers are doing their best to keep things moving!). The hallways of the Grove Arcade are starting to get their festive holiday face lift. Lights are strung up and the marble walls are glowing. Soon trees and glitter and ornaments will glisten in the sun from the skylights. It has been a bizarre time warp- but the holidays are upon us!

I am slowly getting back to the bench. Physical therapy and time are helping, so after I finish all my outstanding orders I will be focused on new pieces for the holiday.
